Windy Day, MFA Boston Alumni Exhibit
It begins with a general composition that I tack down into a loose rendition and at first glance feels finished, but my process leads to deconstructing the image to the point of losing it. Somewhere in the process of addition and subtraction a window opens to an invisible intelligence that I can work with and right there is when things get interesting. The work begins to engage back, there is a conversation happening and eventually the piece animates. This is where I find the "sweet spot" when the still life, or abstract, enters its own visual form. I've come to appreciate my unique path to expression despite the struggle to arrive "there". I feel like the finished artwork is worthy because it embodies a presence of its own.

"This one is particularly vibrant, with contrasting colors and modernist lines. This painting breathes new life, using a bold contemporary style, into the conventional confines of 'still life'."
